Adhesive Binding

This is a temporary binding which may be adapted to a variety of styles. According to the writer of the original information sheet on which this material is partly based, the strength of the product is assisted by the choice of paper and adhesive, penetration of the adhesive, angled saw-cuts, band-driving and the thickness of the glueline. The technique is unsuitable for coated papers.

  1. Remove the back folds.
  2. Score the spine.
  3. Apply Poly-Vinyl Acetate (PVA) to spine.
  4. Allow the adhesive to set, with the book secured in the press.

A paper cover or dustjacket may be wrapped around the book after the spine has set.
Optional: Draw on cover and affix to spine.
