If you are a bookbinder with tools or equipment to buy, sell or exchange, then you have come to the right place!

If you are looking for tools or equipment, scroll through the entries below. If you find what you are looking for, use the email link to make contact. If you have tools or equipment to offer, then complete and send the entry form. Your entry will appear at the top of the list on this page. Email me when you get a response, and I will remove your entry from the list. You can also email me if you need to change any details in your entry.

If you want to advertise your bookbinding services, please keep it brief. Ditto for bookbinding courses. For long entries, email me and I will set up a link for you from my Discover Bookbinding page. Long or irrelevant entries in The Bookbinder's Toolbox are an inconvenience for other users, and will be removed without notice.

Don't worry if you experience some delay between posting your entry and seeing it appear on the page. It's just the server processing your request in the background.

Thanks to Laura Lemay for providing the original guestbook script that forms the basis of this service. If you're interested in writing your own CGI scripts, Laura's book Teach Yourself Web Publishing with HTML in a Week (last updated to cover HTML 4) still provides an excellent introduction. These days Laura seems to have switched from writing books to blogs, and from html and perl to Dreamweaver. Sign of the times I guess.

DESIGNS, BORDERS, LINES, etc

For over 15 years I have bought these from printers (usually ones closing down) as they are suitable for blocking lines between type, lesser designs, etc.. I usually sell these per each although I've also sold “assorted” parcels of blocks on eBay.

I have bought nothing for 3 1/2 years and my aim now is to be clear of this activity by the end of 2010. There is about a drawer full of blocks, trays of line (plain and fancy), made up sets of letter spacers, trays of line spacer, quoins and quoin keys. There used to be 35 (once over 100) sets of type but they have now all gone.

If you are after any of these items, please send me a snail mail address and I'll send you my (rather incomplete) catalogues. These don’t include such blocks as an aeroplane in plan and another side on, freemason’s symbol, etc, so if you have particular needs or interests let me know what they are and I’ll see if I can help.

Flesher System 2 for sale. Boards recently gone through by Flesher. Looks and runs good, it does need to have the boards reset and turned off every once in a while. (From what I hear that is rather common with the system 2) Runs off Dos on a cpu that goes with it. This is a great machine that can be used to stamp material or cases, and possibly cased in books with some modifications. Comes with a total of three wheels with type. If you have any questions or would like to see pictures or video's, just send an email. This item can be picked up in Dayton OH, or could possibly be shipped. Asking $11,000.

Hello

For over 25 years a colleague of mine has been collecting and dealing in hand printing machinery and bookbinding machinery and equipment. He now has 5000 sq ft of stock which includes such things as proofing press's and older antique printing machinery such as Albion and Columbian printing press's. It includes bookbinding lying press's, percussion press's, nipping press's. standing press's, gluing machines, board cutters, finishing press's and sewing frames as well as various gold blocking machines, he has book sewing machines as well as a considerable stock of materials.

Normally my colleague restores equipment and machinery, he is well known within the trade for this, but he now wants to clear some of the unrestored equipmnent he has.

All of the equipment concerned is in an unrestored condition, just as it was when it left the bindery or printing works. We promise the equipment is working but it may have evidence of rust or need of painting or general cleaning.

Because of this we will be asking UNDER INFLATED FAIR PRICES for the equipment.

To give you an example, a completely restored Marshall 5a gold blocking machine was recently offered for sale at only ÂŁ1300.00 Those with experience will recognise one of the most desirable gold blocking machines, not only that but rare.

Here is a link where you can see the quality of the restoration work he did. http://www.edenworkshops.com/5a/5a.htm

I will shortly be adding pages to our site to promote the sale of this stock.

Obviously though the amount of equipment and machinery is considerable, it is very much a finite resource, we expect a strong reaction when this sale of equipment is made public through our site.

I advise anyone to act quickly.

If you have any questions I would be happy to hear from you.

You can mail me at richard.norman@aliceadsl.fr

Thank you.

Richard

P.S. The equipment is based in the UK

P.P.S. We are able to ship overseas.

I am interested in buying Coe's wheels in various sizes. The Coe Company produced ribon gold leaf in spools for bookbinders and sign painters. They also made a variety of hand-held tools with which to use the ribbon leaf. There is also a table-top variety to hold the spool and allow the ribbon gold to be pulled over something similar to a gold cushion. Please contact me at sam@chagfordinc.com

500 sheets Antique Laid Paper 100gsm

I have some very nice acid free, old style, Antique Laid paper, much harder to find now due to shrinking markets. It makes an excellent end paper and also we used this paper stock for paper marbling.

It is an acid free paper SRA2 in size, long grain and vellum in colour, someone coined the term antique cream which is a nice description.

Sheet size of 450 x 640 mm = 17.72 x 25.20 inches 100gsm

Long Grain

Colour = Cream

Substance 100 gsm Caliper (approx) 138 micron Opacity (ISO) % 92 Brightness (ISO)% 96 Whiteness CIE D65 142 Smoothness (Bendtsen) 800 Rigidity (Taber) 4.5 Surface ph 7.6

This paper meets ISO 9706 requirements for permanence of paper. The mill that produced it has ISO 9002 & 14001 accreditation.

The paper is brand new and packed in 500's in damp proof wrappers.
